Wide Open Experimental Film Festival (WOEFF) is a festival organized by the Film Department at Oklahoma City University. Inspired by Oklahoma’s wide-open landscape, we showcase experimental films that will open peoples’ eyes to the alternative forms, structures, and styles of film.

WOEFF is looking for anything that falls under the broad umbrella of “experimental film.” We’re interested in unusual techniques, fringe topics, edge cases, longing outsiders and fed-up insiders, films that break machines, films that channel rage onto celluloid, films that quietly observe, films that chaotically invent. Films by thoughtful weirdos, intuitive poets, structuralists, purists, Luddites, avant-gardists, experimenters, artisans.

In past years, we've showcased works by filmmakers like Tomonari Nishikawa, Kelly Gallagher, Lori Felker, Sasha Waters, Ben Russell, Peter Rose, Dominic Angerame, Bill Brown, Caryn Cline, Gregg Biermann, Crystal Z Campbell, and many many more.

WOEFF will take place in person in Oklahoma City in Spring 2026 and will, as always, be free to attend. We plan to expand WOEFF’s programming for WOEFF FIVE to include artist talks, introductions by film scholars and students, and panel discussions.

Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to pay screening or travel fees to filmmakers.

This year, we have a maximum duration of 25 minutes for all submitted films. WOEFF has no requirements for films’ premiere status or date of completion.

Rules & Terms
Entry fee: $10 by Regular deadline (Nov 1), $20 by late deadline (November 30).

Submissions will only be accepted through FilmFreeway. At this time, we are planning an all-digital screening; all films will be screened as a DCP.

Due to programming limitations, we are only accepting films under 25 minutes long.

If you would like to propose an installation-based work, or have a project that is not single-channel, please email the festival director at wideopeneff@gmail.com for more information.

There are no completion date or premiere status requirements; films can be brand new, recent, or from years past.

All films with dialogue or text must be in English or have English subtitles.

Submissions accepted worldwide; no restrictions on production date or premiere status. Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to pay screening or travel fees to filmmakers.

Once accepted, submissions cannot be withdrawn.

By submitting, you grant Wide Open Experimental Film Festival and Oklahoma City University permission to use images from your film for promotional purposes.

If you have questions, you can contact the festival team at wideopeneff@gmail.com.
