What I Love About Concrete

A homespun fairy tale screwball comedy from Memphis, TN, What I Love About Concrete will have its Los Angeles premiere at the Echo Park Film Center on August 24th at 8pm.
Concrete follows high school junior Molly Whuppie on her quest to revive a magical dead swan, all the while navigating the absurdities of high school history projects and abstinence-only sex-education.

Armed with only a shoestring budget, a grand vision, and an off-kilter sense of humor, first-time directors Alanna Stewart and Katherine Dohan turned to homemade special effects, original music, puppetry, and an eclectic cast of community actors to realize their uncanny take on the classic heroine’s journey.

Co-director Katherine Dohan will be in attendance. Tickets are 5 dollars at the door.

“...really wonderful; it has charm, craft, humor and heart.” --John Beifuss of the Commercial Appeal

“The filmmakers deftly merge several approaches to the teen film genre for an overwhelmingly satisfying vision that combines a realistic feel for adolescent angst with smartly executed metaphoric fairy tale elements and scenes of pure absurdist humor.” --Mike Everleth of the Underground Film Journal
