No major argument from me I guess but I'm also interested in what works
now. I'm not going to abandon film at the moment because digital "will"
be better or "they'll stop making film after a while" (if one
abandoned shooting a particular a video format based on it's projected
obsolesence (sp) one would have to avoid all of them ;-)

Sure but I know that. (What Michael Mann and Dion Bebe (Oscar winner in
Cinematography last night) did in "Collateral" - and to some extent I
bet what Fincher & Savides are doing in "Zodiac" -- is what David
Leitner and I did 3 years ago...
