Thanks for this, Rob.

No, the other Z'ev (or is that me) is someone that I've known about for a long time cos people in NY when I lived there kept on mentioning him. I contacted him a couple of years ago when I saw an article on him in Wire and that he was living in London as I was at the time, about doing a collaboration, we talked about it a while but schedules and travelling etc made getting together difficult and it just faded away.

it's an issue that interests me a lot, too, and will check out the book when it gets published. (You're site looks interesting too, Joel, but don't have time to look into it right now, but will do so later this month.)

If you're interested, I did a cycle of called Chatterbox using dialogue to create a kinda of rhythmic music concrete, questioning the meaning/meaninglessness of it. Three chapters linked from here - http://www.artafterscience.com/chatterbox/chatterbox.htm

Are you at middlesex or in Hull?

Zev

(Interestingly Z'ev (the percussionist) was a speaker, no relation I guess.)

My particular area of interest is partly to do with how we can now perceive the sound (noise) of certain experimental films (particularly from the early 70's) as music rather than as being incidental. Referencing Vertov's Enthusiasm, Pierre Schaffer's early (music concréte) experiments and Fluxus among others and the relationship of noise with signification.

Hi Rob, could you tell me a bit more both about your book and Noisetheorynoise, on or off list?

    thanks,

Additionally in UK to KYTN and other examples there have been two noise conferences (NoiseTheoryNoise) in the department of Modern European Philosopy University of Middlesex where noise and film got referenced. Also my text "Noise Film Aesthetics" is due to be published next month in the Anthology of Experimental Film & Video edited by Jackie Hatfield & Steve Littman.

So should there be crossover of venues as well? Is it possible for us to show films at noise joints? Noise concerts at Anthology, etc.?

I'd love to show work in that kind context.

we had 'noise' events at Brighton Cinematheque (UK) and I've toured films across Europe at such venues....
