I think labs have always been industry-oriented, that is after all where
the business comes from. Some labs are more indie friendly, and Forde was
definitely that kind of lab. Not so much in terms of price (there are
cheaper labs) but as far as service goes and quality of work.
RK Adams (a Seattle-based filmmaker works at Alpha) and several Portland
locals use Alpha all the time and are happy with the results. The merge is
a big change and maybe in some ways it will be for the better. Just have
to shoot some tests and try it out.
I think it's safe to trust your s8 with Alpha, but if you're processing
B/W I highly recommend Film and Video Services in Minneapolis. I was
always extremely happy with what I got back from them.
