POSITION SUMMARY:
Assistant/Associate Professor: Filmmaker
Massachusetts College of Art seeks an innovative filmmaker for a
full-time tenure-track position in the Film/Video Major of the Media and
Performing Arts Department, starting September 2007.
Massachusetts College of Art is the only public college of art and
design in the US.
In the Film/Video Major, students pursue personal productions in film,
video and sound. Our curriculum is focused on the student finding
his/her individual voice and providing the foundation skills to carry
out that vision. We encourage students to experiment and balance
conceptual and technical proficiencies with a critical understanding of
media history and practice.
The candidate must be a filmmaker whose work displays an experimental,
non-conventional approach to film production, whether that is fiction or
non-fiction film. The candidate must possess a solid background in 16mm
film and be able to teach all aspects of digital film production. A
knowledge and proficiency in the areas of analogue and digital
post-production is essential. Knowledge of the Avid editing system is
helpful but not essential.
A full-time teaching load at Massachusetts College of Art is twelve (12)
credit hours or three courses per semester. Full-time responsibilities
also include participating in departmental meetings, student advising,
student review boards and College-wide committees. In addition, the
successful candidate must be able to work with other members in the
faculty on curriculum development and revisions.
Required:
- An active record of professional achievement as demonstrated by the
following: filmography, screenings, exhibitions, professional practice,
publications, grants or other scholarship.
- MFA or professional equivalent.
At the associate rank, 6 years of full-time teaching, three of which are
at the college level are required
At the assistant rank, three years of full or part-time teaching
experience is required
