last year, or maybe before, there was a locally produced PBS segment about
him making his sculptures that aired on KQED here in san francisco. Sorry,
I don't remember what show it was, KQED has a few shows that highlight local
artists.

What I remember about that one was it showed how he built the 2 1/2 story
sculpture that is inside the lobby of the Gap headquarters here in san
francisco, on harrison and embarcadero.

I used to go to the gap all the time for my job, to mix sound for their
corporate meetings, and have had the privilege of seeing and experiencing
that huge sculpture.

(BTW the Fisher family, owners of the gap, have a huge privately held modern
art collection. they have 2 galleries built in the same building I
mentioned above to house their warhols, lichtenstiens and richters, among
many others.) I have also had the privilege of spending time with that
collection, when I went to work there.

UNFORTUNATELY, you have to work at the Gap to get into the building, and
especially the art gallery.
it is very high security there........and those gap clone people dont seem
to appreciate the amazing art that surrounds them....
You can see the Serra piece through the window, but seeing it isnt what its
about its more of a sound sculpture.
Its really too bad that this amazing collection is only for a few........

Does anyone know a source for films of Richard Serra forging some of his
sculptures? I'm told the films (videos?) were made in the last ten years,
perhaps in Germany and/or Finland.
