This report from a graduate of the Archiving and Preservation program at NYU
http://www.nyu.edu/tisch/preservation/research/disaster/06ala-talks/talk_vanmalssen.shtml
has some lovely images of Helen Hill and her films, many of which were (as
people knew from a discussion months back about films from Katrina/NOLA
and the Home Movie Day in NOLA this year) destroyed in the flooding. You
have to scroll down a little.
The story would be tragic enough without today's horrible news of her
death; and yet, it's remarkable to see someone looking so cheery about the
prospect of hand-cleaning mostly unrecoverable decades of work. The
accompanying account makes the case pretty well, I think, for the vitality
and urgency of the work of preservation and archiving.
