It might be interesting to compare Sky Burial with Robert Gardener's
Forest of Bliss (1986) about funeral procedures in Benares, India.
The film has been acidly critiqued by some, especially visual
cultural anthropologists, and defended by others (including Gardener
in response to the criticism) as "universal" etc. You can track down
a lot of the discussion in the journal Visual Anthropology.
