UNIVERSITY OF DUNDEE

POST DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT ON THE AHRC FUNDED RESEARCH PROJECT:
Narrative Exploration in Expanded Cinema
Fixed Term Post for Two years starting as soon as possible from June 2007

DUNCAN OF JORDANSTONE COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN
Post based at British Artists’ Film and Video Study Collection
Central St Martins, UAL, in central London

Starting salary is currently £ 26,666 (Grade 7, Spinal Point 30)

Through the review of practice, concomitant theories, and interviews with
selected artists and historians the research will aim to establish a working
theoretical definition of narrative as it applies to the field of historical
expanded cinema and new forms of interactive cinema. Non-linear cinematic
languages emerging from artists’ exploration of interactive technologies
continue the historical trajectory of expanded cinema and provide an
imperative to re-conceptualise the dynamics of narrative and dramaturgy and
its positioning within the avant-garde. A two-year position is available as
soon as possible from June 2007 to deliver the relevant aspects of the
project, (including theoretical and historical review), undertake field-work
(including interviews with artists, and theorists), and contribute to the
research outcomes. The Principal Investigator for the project is Dr Jackie
Hatfield.

Applicants are sought from qualified PhDs with relevant experience, or from
other suitably experienced and qualified individuals.
