The person you are describing below is Bruce McClure (or at least the
description fits him) and his work is stunning.

Check the upcoming (amazing-looking!) Evolution festival in Leeds presented
by Lumen (www.lumen.org.uk). They have several performance-based film
programs, including McClure, Ken Jacobs, Metamkine, and Christian Lebrat.
There are also two lecture/screenings by Peter Kubelka, and two very
impressive-looking group screenings. One of these includes work by Kyle
Canterbury, which I highly recommend (see
www.fredcamper.com/Film/Canterbury.html).
