Passing this along from my colleagues here in Wilmington, NC. Cucalorus is
a pretty good festival with strong support from the community. It was
featured in Time Magazine last year in an article on "film festivals for the
rest of us" published around the time of Cannes. It would be great to see a
stronger experimental component this year.

www.cucalorus.org
The 13th Annual Cucalorus Film Festival seeks submissions from
independent filmmakers and video artists. Cucalorus is a non-competitive
showcase of features, shorts and documentaries from around the world.
The festival blends together a collection of cutting edge visions with a
sampling of the finest international cinema. Known for itıs relaxed,
rock nı roll atmosphere, Cucalorus focuses on the filmmaker with equal
doses of southern charm and Southern Comfort. Our main venue is the
richly ornate Thalian Hall built in 1858. Festival venues tucked inside
the historic downtown area of Old Wilmington and along the banks of the
Cape Fear River give Cucalorus its renegade, old-world style. Walkable
and welcoming, Cucalorus invites you to join us for the Southıs most
progressive film festival. Attracting filmmakers and artists in large
numbers, the festival ³is a place where spectators and creators collide,
leaving us all just a little more inspired and a lot more aware.²
Formats: 35mm, 16mm, various video formats. Cucaloriland excepts films
from all genres - you make it, we take it. All entries on DVD or VHS
must include entry form, one lovely poem, and fee, $40 final(July 10),
$55 extended(July 28). You can download an entry form from our website -
