2. NOW...

Reel Rescues is an exhibition (at the State Library of Queensland) of home
movies, silent films and original newsreels, acting as a time capsule of
Queensland life from the 1920s through to the 1970s in moving image form.
The show is co-curated by OtherFilm's Sally Golding (along with Bryony
Nainby) and features Golding's conservation work, with detailed studies of
beautifully deteriorated film frames. Reel Rescues also features
contemporary film works dealing the broader notion of 'the archive' by
artists Jim Knox and Kerry Laitala, and a new sound piece 'Sonic Projection'
by OtherFilm's Joel Stern.

Reel Rescues, SLQ Gallery, Level 2, until Dec 2nd 2007. Free Entry.

3. VERY SOON...

If you're around this Friday (June 22) and you feel like some free beer,
pizza, and artists' video, you should come along to the ARTIST MAKES VIDEO:
art rage survey 1994 -1998 show at the DELL Gallery, 226 Grey St South Bank.
The show features over 80 of Australia's best-known contemporary artists who
were invited to make a video work for TV in the 1990s show art rage:
artworks for television. It's on show now, during the 20th anniversary of
ABCTV's rage, and the catalogue essay, 'Surfaces of Inexhaustible Depth' was
put together by OtherFilm's own Danni Zuvela. Did we mention the free
alcohol bit?

4. SOONISH...

Liquid Architecture 8 is happening soon across the east-coast of Australia
and OtherFilm are unbelievably excited about the arrival of 'Cellule
d'Intervention Metamkine' the pioneering French 16mm performance ensemble.
These will be historic events and we encourage all experimental film fans to
be there. We will be there. In fact, we are proud to announce that Abject
Leader will be performing alongside Metamkine in Melbourne and Sydney as
part of this tour.

Abject Leader are Sally Golding (celluloid, 16mm projectors, live
manipulations), Joel Stern (concrete sounds, invented instruments,
electronics) and Jamie Hume (narration, characterisation). They will perform
a series of recent expanded cinema works including 'Bloodless Landscape',
'The Gospel According to Johnny's Ghost', and 'Henri's Hallucinations across
Time and Space', constructed from poetic, abstract 16mm film (mostly shot on
the outskirts of Brisbane, or at home, and hand-processed), improvised and
chaotic dissolutions of Foley, sound effects, and score, and heavily
fractured narratives drawn from dreams, hallucinations, and other
visitations.

run with a screening at this year's Melbourne International Film Festival
