Thanks Gene, rub it in why don't you. ;)

We bought this player a few years ago, and all players being universal
assumed we'd find a hack, but to no avail. JVC seems to have won.

Mostly we watch preview DVDs that folks send us and DVDs from the public
library, and besides a few discs that had issues playing back (chapter
skipping), most play trouble-free.

It's amazing to me with the amount of work Rouch produced there remains
only 4-5 films available in North America, and the option to "see them on
video" isn't much better (Facet's sells VHS and DVD copies ranging from
$90-250).

So, yes, we may be buying a new player... and then there's HD/blue ray on
the horizon... toss another unit on the junk pile.
