Have you seen Seth Price's "Digital Video Effect: Editions"? It's a great piece that deals with some of the ideas you mentioned.

Does anyone out there have contact info for the San
Francisco-based artist Kota Ezawa?

While I'm at it, I should mention that I'm currently
working on a video program for Vtape in Toronto based
on the conceptual premise of "original copy." The
program is called "That Reminds Me of Something" and
I'm specifically looking for videos that recycle and
animate over archival materials (or generate new
animated material based on pre-existing images) for
illustrative and/or discursive purposes, while
simultaneously (almost) erasing their indexical value.
I'm open to suggestions. The screening will be taking
place in late-February, and will include a curatorial
essay and catalog.
best, Brett
