The Re:Voir Maclaine tape is only in PAL, and it's not available from
Re:Voir's (limited) US outlet, so you have to order it from Pip in France,
pay in Euros, wait for it to cross the pond, etc.

The old, now defunct, Arthouse Video had released an NTSC tape of The End,
which may be available through interlibrary loan.

I wouldn't rent a print for study purposes. For one thing you need a
Steenbeck to do close analysis properly w. a print, and in addition to the
cost I don't think anyone's struck new prints lately. I rented a print of
The End from FMC in 1983, when Maclaine was just being 'rediscovered'
thanks to J. J. Murphy, who in addition to writing those articles had
tracked down some misplaced masters in a back room of some lab. The print
was absolutely gorgeous, the viewing experience transcendent! I have the
feeling FMC is sending out that same print now. The last time I rented The
End it was really beat up, full of bad splices, cinch scratches, yada
yada. The Arthouse video transfer was lousy. I haven't seen the Re:Voir
tape but hopefully it's up to Pip's usually high standard. Maclaine on
Blu-Ray soon, yes Pip? (merci)

Soon, our time will be up. We must hurry.
