Depends on what you mean by compatible. I've never run across a US
analog TV that will play PAL, but a lot of HD/digital TVs will,
especially over component or HDMI inputs, from a progressive scan
output. But a lot of cheap DVD players actually convert PAL to NTSC,
without advertising it. They only mention it in the instruction manual,
if at all. I have a $40 Toshiba that does, and there are some cheap
Philips players that do, and many more I'm sure. Oppo makes some VERY
nice DVD players that play PAL, for reasonable prices, given their
quality. Also, it is possible to hack a lot of DVD players to make them
region free, and sometimes play/convert PAL. One website with a lot of
info on DVD hacks is www.videohelp.com. Look at the column on the left,
and click on "DVD Hacks."
