In regard to the S8/R8/D8 thread, I must quote Popeye:
"I can't stands it 'cause I can't stands no more!"
What use in trumpeting one gauge as better than another be it ease of use or availability of tools or cost of materials? Why not share our discoveries without the divisiveness?
I'm currently in production on a near feature-length doc shot entirely in super 8, primarily black and white. I'm making HD pro res transfers to edit digitally and eventually screen in large theaters rather than on a bed sheet. My cinematography skills notwithstanding, the images are drop dead gorgeous; texture, grain, information in the shadows and highlights, everything one could love about film, regardless of format--yum!
My passion for this format is not based on it being 'better'. It simply works for me--the cameras, the film, every aspect of it. To each his/her own and power to ye!
