I was wondering that too. The funky J-K models (possessed by FAF and SFAI among others) were long said to be manufactured by a guy named Jako (sp?) who, it was said, lived in Oakland (like at SFAI they used to say, "I guess we need to call Jako.." whenever the thing was being weird.) The deal is... I got the impression that like many of his apparent ilk, this Jako was kind of hard to track/nail down most of the time and I get the sense that mayve he was no longer around (as in no longer available/in the biz). Does anyone know the whereabouts of Jako??

At a screening q&a once at Cinematheque, circa 1999, Phil Solomon praised Jako: "He makes optical printers and surfboards...". I get the sense he (Jako) may have been some kind of long-haired Romanian surfer/hippy dude living in Oakland...
