Brakhage comes to mind, and especially his "Airs," one of the super-8
films from 1976 recently discussed here, available in 16mm (but check
that the color is not faded).
As the title indicates, "Airs" shows different qualities of atmosphere,
with solid objects as occasional apparitions.
