Not necessarily.
Aatons have better registration than Arri SR1s and SR2s because Arri
used a fixed-width film channel and the image would weave diagonally
if the film was not precisely 16mm wide. Aaton used the standard
spring loaded edge guide and a very cleverly designed claw.
Bolexes in good repair have great registration.
Registration pins are useful for multiple exposures or optical effects
work, but not necessary for most shooting. Hell, even Auricons and
CP16s have very good registration, many 35mm blowups have been shot
with these movements.
