i am glad you are enjoying this thread. the double-band idea is great and as you read seems to work for sure. i am thinking about its cost/feasibility, since this involves magnetic tape, finding people to process it, the costs of it in a progressively digital world, etc...

as to the bauers it's like high-end eiki's. it's about curiosity, patience and big wave surfing.. don't hesitate to look on websites in japan, germany, since ebay comes short here.

if you find a double-band, ask if they have a second, and/or a bauer P8, P8 selecton, P8 T400, i'd buy it right away!

i absolutely love the double-band projector idea and am now determined to hunt one down for myself, perhaps even more than one for a public installation that i am planning.  

now, a couple of questions:  anyone have any ideas as to where to purchase this Bauer beauty or a comparable gem or even where to begin the search? i have never seen one of these on ebay.  

and...  how might one get access to a mag recording machine?  i have not used mag since way back when, but would love to work with it again.  this is not something i would necessarily want to buy, but any suggestions for who might have a mag recorder that i could get to on the east coast of the u.s. and any considerations when doing the transfer from digital cd would be awesome.  is there a studio that offers this service where one can just send a cd and get it transferred?

Maybe you need a 'Bauer Sonorex P6 Studio' projector they are double band and portable.  you can see a picture of one herehttp://www.xs4all.nl/~wichm/cinelist.html
I have access to one you'd be welcome to borrow, it has a filed gate but not full S16. It is a wonderful machine which will record and play just about any combination of mag 
soundtrack. They are really heavy though so it might be better for you to try and find one closer to home.

2. More specifically, should this be feasible with an Eiki, does anyone have a scanned service manual for an Eiki EX-300SL (or EX-2000)with the electric circuitry? (350W xenon lamp)

3. I have been looking for an Eiki EX-300SL through the usual channels (ebay, ...). It is very difficult to find... Much harder than the more common SSL's. Does anyone know of a place that could have a couple for sale?
