Frameworkers might be interested in this. It's often anecdotally
said by greybeards like me that the 60s New American Cinema was
studied by people in advertising for "fresh ideas." Now there's
actually a detailed study of this phenomenon. My colleague Lynn
Sjpigel has just published TV BY DESIGN: Modern Art and the Rise of
Network Television (U of Chicago Press, 2009) which has a chapter on
these connections. There's also an interesting chapter on MoMA's
long standing interest in TV, etc.
