Living as a filmmaker in Paris (is it possible?)

I have been living in New York for ten years and I think that I am ready for a change in location.  I would like to know more about how Paris is for a filmmaker.  How does it compare to New York concerning availability of labs, access to an optical printer, etc.?  Are there good venues to screen new works?  How receptive is it to celluloid people?   Any info people might have would be highly appreciated.
