Cari, I've known Fred for 13 years, on Frameworks and in person.
I've had many an enjoyable conversation with him, have read many of
his writings, and followed, as much as I could remotely, his artwork.
He introduced me to the films of Bela Tarr and to the concept of
walking across the Triborough Bridge. I have never seen him take the
attitude that "once the art movement is 'known' it is over", express
the slightest desire to become one of those "way too powerful art
critics " or take any position which would be "stifling to art
making". In my opinion, you are SOOO barking up the wrong tree.
You're erecting a strawman and then getting us all into a furious
fight over it. I can see how there is some fun in it, but I submit
to you that there is way more fun in furiously fighting about films
and our perceptions of them, than about our psychological hangups.
And yes, Fred knows more about Brakhage than almost anybody. I
would say that's a good thing, no?

Dada, that's definitely the spirit of the times. We are all Dada now.
