Just use RCA connectors out of the VHS deck and into your mini DV
camcorder (P150 or other with RCA inputs.) and firewire out to the
Mac. Capture the footage by pressing play on the camcorder manually
and clicking capture now in FCP. You may meed to set something in
the camcorder menu to get the signal to go out.

If you see and hear it in FCP "Log and Capture" window you are set.
