The woman giving birth is in charge and you have to do what she says. The
birth itself is more important than your movie, it is a life-or-death
situation. I have heard tales of women who planned to have many
(non-essential) people attending a birth, it's going to be a wonderful
communal event, la la la, but when push comes to shove (sorry for the pun)
the woman changes her mind and yells "Everybody get the hell out of
here!!!" Being "extremely flexible" means that you do not question her
request, you do not try to change her mind, you do it immediately.
I would also recommend that you learn a lot about childbirth before you
attend, read lots of birth stories. There is a wide range of possible
developments, you should be comfortable with your knowledge of what will
happen, and what might happen. It's usually wonderful, it can be quite
scary.

be extremely flexible, and discuss with the parents beforehand what they
are comfortable with. make sure you have plenty of extra battery packs,
as this could take a lot longer than you expect and it would not be
advisable to run electrical cords in the room. if you are filming in a
hospital, get all necessary clearance ahead of time. good luck, what an
honor.
