thanks Jeannie, think I might shell out as well (60 yooros for a print in germany)
did a very DIY transfer, flipped it to positive in finalcut & tweaked the contrast/colours &c, interesting ... at least i know what i have on it!

the main stumbling block seems to be the orange mask - how does that work usually folks, how do the labs deal with it to get a good pos?

i was in the same boat once and could only afford to have the negative developed, which i did -and projected it too! which was, um, interesting ...but eventually i saved my pennies and sent the negative roll to Spectra in LA and for 69.95 got it transferred properly to mini dv and it was *gorgeous*.

A student of mine did do it herself using some AfterEffects recipe (?), it was OK, NOT gorgeous.
