Hi Tony!
My text for video (of which the Surveying the First Decade collection is my primary resource) is Catherine Elwes' Video Art: A Guided Tour. British.
Hi, Roger!
I find Bordwell and Thompson oppressive. It's distinctively American in its reductive and untheorized assessment of even narrative film. It is akin to a grammar book for creative writers, a losing battle for artists. The model here is the emphasis David Curtis gives to the various support systems for artists working in film and video. This belongs in art not film studies.
Thanks, Patrick! Missing Chicago. And Ed Halter, I'm looking up that chapter.
BErnie
