It's the Mystic Fire NTSC DVD, with 'Private Life of a Cat'. Re: the
previous note from Mystic Fire about standing behind the quality...
It's not a bad transfer at all. It's fine. It's just not up to the
very high standard set by Criterion with By Brakhage. We can all hope
that someday a better transfer of Deren will be made available, e.g.
in BluRay. But that would be gravy. I'm grateful to Mystic Fire that
we have a decent disc available now. If you have a decent screen to
view it on, you'll be drawn into the power of the work, and you
certainly won't be thinking about the transfer. Netflix also has the
Deren disc available for streaming on 'Instant Play'. That, I would
not recommend, as the compression artifacting and packet hiccups
_would_ be distracting.
