A Kodak Pageant 16mm projector packed in a "dishpack" moving box (cut down
to the max size) weighs just shy of 50 lbs, which is the usual cut off
weight. I just flew American Airlines to Jamaica from the US, which has an
allowance of two free checked bags, and the projector was just fine. You
might be able to use your clothes as the packing material, and then you're
all in one!
Make SURE that you're under 50 lbs though: the excess weight fee was $100
US! Go and buy a scale if you don't have one, and use it!
Make sure you get the specific limits for your particular airline (they have
them on their websites), and plan accordingly.
