A friend asked me to pass this along. Again, this is in London:

On Wednesday 31 March, WOMEN MAKE FILMS: 1970s presents a screening of:

RIDDLES OF THE SPHINX
(Directed by Laura Mulvey and Peter Wollen, 1977)

With guest speaker Lucy Reynolds

* 6pm in Room 137, RHB main building, Goldsmiths University, New Cross*
Free admission and open to public as well as to Goldsmiths students and
staff.

About the film:
A complex treatise exploring feminism, motherhood and sexual
difference in seven numbered chapters, this film addresses the position of
women in patriarchy through the prism of psychoanalysis. Riddles of the
Sphinx
(1977) draws on the critical writings and investigations by both filmmakers
into the codes of narrative cinema, and offers an alternative formal
structure
through which to consider the images and meanings of female representation
in
film.

These screenings are part of WOMEN MAKE FILMS series, every week from Feb -
May, programmed by Treasa O'Brien and Alice Trueman.
A series dedicated to some of the best and most groundbreaking films of the
world made by or about women, from the 1890s to 2010.
