Avant10: Sounding Out

The theme for AVANT 2010
is sound and the audio-visual experience. The program starts on Friday
evening at the Kristinehamn Art Museum with a performance for three
projectors by Bruce McClure. McClure is one of the most exciting
contemporary film performers in the U.S.
Avant continues on
Saturday at the Arenan cinema in Karlstad. The program is a combination of
films made by Swedish and Finnish pioneers in electronic music: Ralph
Lundsten and Rolf Nilson’s animated experiments and a selection of
early works by Erkki Kurenniemi. Another pioneering work will also be shown:
Karl-Birger Blomdahl’s audio-visual composition
“Altisonan”, a combination of sounds from satellites and
birds.
Next will be a program of
films made by Mika Taanila and C M von Hausswolff/Thomas Nordanstad. The day
will close with a panel discussion with McClure, Taanila,
Hausswolff/Nordanstad and the audience.
AVANT10: Sounding Out is a collaboration between the Värmland
Region’s Centres for Film; The Museum of Contemporary Art in
Kristinehamn; Karlstad University; the association for contemporary art,
Världsalltet; Region Värmland and the City of Karlstad. The
Swedish Film Institute, the Finnish Film Foundation and the Filmform
foundation have also sponsored the event.
