it's a bit more complex than that, and not an issue of difference between
the us and europe. it's about how modern an airport is, that is, abotu
whether the operators have spectrometers they can rely on to detect
explosives inside items that a traveller requests not to be x-rayed. the
more modern an airport the better. older airports don't have spectrometers
and their x-ray gates are not the most recent, i.e. safest ones
