My understanding is that Icarus has video rights to the Middletown
series as a whole, and that Jeff and Joel disavow the version of
Seventeen they offer (which was available for years as a very pricey
VHS) because some edits were made without their permission. If that is
in fact the case, I don't know how much or what exactly... I think I
remember Ben Levin opining that ay alterations were minor and had
little or no effect on the substance. But given the way the Joel and
Jeff were attacked and the way the film was repressed, one can
understand how they would sensitive to any censorship.
