One low tech mechanical approach would be a timing belt/chain between the two projectors (via inching knob shafts or main drive shafts). Equal sized toothed pulleys and a toothed belt, or bicycle chain and cogs. If the projectors are close enough in speed already, this will lock them together without too much additional wear on the motors from drag.
Or, run both projectors from one external motor, again, via chain drive or timing belt. Chain has the advantage of adjustability, but might be a little noisier than a belt. I've seen this done with a projector and fullcoat dubber to sync double system sound.
