Years ago, at a film department I was teaching in, we had a small room
that we wanted to make into a little screening room. The projector
noise would have been large. Someone built a kind of blimp to enclose
the projector, insulated with sound absorbant materials on the inside,
with a door that could be closed once the projector was running. A fan
inside the box vented through an opening in the wall against which the
projector had been set -- I can't remember if this was a natural vent
in the wall or what, but without this the temperature would have been
impossible. The fan made noise, but much less annoying noise than the
projector did.
One danger here is that one might not hear it if the takeup belt
breaks. Not sure what to do about that.
Once I passed by the outer wall where the vent was and noted an
extremely strong smell of, well, marijuana. Some art student had
figured out a way to use our blimp as a bong! This presumably will not
be a problem if the professor is running the screening.
