Assuming there is some way to manually advance the projector's movement,
look at the gate while advancing the projector's movement and you will
either see a claw protruding near the film frame, or
just below the projector's aperture plate there will be a rotating sprocket
wheel (geneva movement).
You can see these whether manual advancing the movement or not, but advance
the movement should
make it easier to see what is going to advance the film.
