Two special Visual Music programs screen this week at Cinematheque de Tanger, Morocco, presented in association with Center for Visual Music, Los Angeles and Tate Modern, London. Curated by Stuart Comer of the Tate.
Friday night: Oskar Fischinger. Classics of Visual Music, in 35mm prints. Including Wax Experiments, Studie nr. 7, Walking from Munich to Berlin, Composition in Blue, American March, Allegretto, Radio Dynamics and more. All prints from Center for Visual Music. This program also includes a rare screening of Fischinger's unfinished Euthymol toothpaste commercial (1935), reconstructed by William Moritz in 2000.
Saturday night: Visual Music.
This program retraces the heritage of Oskar Fischinger through a series of films which foreground the visionary formal innovation of this extraordinary story of Visual Music. Includes Mary Ellen Bute's Abstronic, Charles Dockum's 1952 Mobilcolor Performance film, John Stehura's Cibernetic 5.3, and films by Len Lye, Lis Rhodes, Lillian Schwartz and Ken Knowlton and more.

The Dockum film was preserved by CVM. The Stehura and Bute films are also from the collection of Center for Visual Music, Los Angeles. The Fischinger films were preserved by Center for Visual Music and Academy Film Archive.
The Cinematheque is North Africa's first cinema cultural center in the historic heart of Tangier, Morocco.
