Thanks to all for the free education in video formats etc. The long
and detailed posts were especially helpful. I see that things are, not
surprisingly, pretty complex!
I'm still suspicious for the long term. I know there are files created
by 1950s computers with old software (not video files, of course) that
can be read only with difficulty or not at all. Their software runs
only on computers that no longer exist, bascically. In the long term,
newer platforms don't run older software. But there are some robust
exhibition formats, and so let's hope they continue to be supported.
