Diffusion paper is the thing. I don't know if it comes wider than 3m, or about 10ft, but you can seal a join with matte tape.
Another option is drafting film. These can both be expensive, but for the dimensions you're describing it won't cost so much.

I am trying to make an inexpensive rear projection screen.
I have a frame, and am looking for recommendations for fabric.
In my web research, all of the pro rear projection material i've
found is
around $50 a yard. That's out of my budget right now...
I'm using a homemade kaleidoscope projector..
the lense does not focus... the optimal throw distance
is about 4 feet, so rear projection is my only option.
So far, the projector has only been used once in a live music
performance,
on a pro screen, and it looked great. Unfortunately,
I no longer have access to that screen, which was
on loan for free.

For the homemade screen, I tried a thin, tight weave, polyester
fabric that I had lying around the house.
the image looked great, nice and bright... the only problem was the
hotspot.
It doesn't look terrible, just a bit distracting... I guess I can
live with it,
since I am working with a very small budget for this project...
but I'm wondering if anyone has fabric recommendations,
OR.. if there is anyone in the Philadelphia area who would rent
a rear projection screen to me for about 5 days, for not a ton of money.
