After 10 incredible years Ocularis will be taking an extended
sabbatical from our weekly screening series after June, 2006.
Operating a not-for-profit cultural organization has always been ripe
with challenges; and in the current environment - with the ever
transforming cultural landscape, decreasing funding for the arts and
soaring real estate and living costs, - all arts organizations in NYC
are now facing major challenges for the future.
We want to take "one of the most innovative film venues in New York"
(Artforum, 2003) and transform it into a full-time venue so that the
dynamic programming that we have presented for 10 years will have a
future home here in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Hence, Ocularis will be devoting this time to exploring long-term
plans for the opening of an art-house cinema in Williamsburg within
the next 16 to 24 months. An official announcement will be made at a
commemorative 10th Year anniversary screening planned to take place at
MoMA later this year.
We would like to thank and acknowledge Galapagos for their unwavering
support and incredible dedication during these ten unforgettable
years. Without a venue like Galapagos, so many emerging artists and
not-for-profit arts organizations would simply not have a vital public
forum for their activities.
If you have any questions about Ocularis and our current and future
plans please feel free to contact me at email suppressed
