OK, you asked to be corrected. Cinemascope is (on film) a 1:1.2
aspect ratio these days, wheras Academy is 1:1.37. And the lenses
required to fit Academy within the screen height would be a longer
focal length than the others, so the image would over-run the
screen. Ergo pillarboxing when choice of theater can't be controlled.
