There is the approach Rob Hummel came up with when he was at Disney,
for re-releasing a lot of their older Academy-framed films. Print it
pillarboxed. That way any modern theater can project it properly, as
most new theaters don't have lenses or mattes for anything besides
1.85 (in the US) and 'scope.
We're doing this on a B&W restoration filmout of a 70s indy feature
soon.
