Opening Program: Frans Zwartjes
***************************************************************************
TIE is thrilled to announce that three newly restored films by Frans
Zwartjes will be opening The International Experimental Cinema Exposition
- 2006.

Frans Zwartjes (1927) is a filmmaker, musician, drawer, painter and
sculptor. Sexuality, psychosis, cruelty, power and powerlessness are ever
recurring themes in his films. The general idea of reality is broken down
by brilliant camera work and neurotic editing to replace it with a
personal and often disturbing reality.

The Nederlands Filmmuseum preserved Zwartjes’ films as part of a three year
project to save key works of Dutch experimental film, with the support of
the Mondriaan Foundation. “Dutch Masters” is a program of Filmbank
(www.filmbank.nl).

Closing Program: "The Illiac Passion" by Gregory J. Markopoulos
***************************************************************************
TIE presents a restored print of "The Illiac Passion" by Gregory J. Markopoulos.

"While in his writings Markopoulos posited the timelessness of classical
themes, his treatment of myth -- in narratives that are fueled by
sensuality and interior experience -- was startlingly modern. He spoke of
deploying "incarnate individuals or character figures" instead of actors.
The vitality of his approach is exemplified in his imaginative casting of
23 friends and underground figures, including Andy Warhol, Jack Smith, and
Taylor Mead, as mythical beings in... The Illiac Passion. Kristin M. Jones

Special thanks to Temenos Inc. and Association for their phenomenal work on
the Gregory Markopoulos restoration project.
