JENNI OLSON'S THE JOY OF LIFE
The Joy of Life. 2005. USA. Directed by Jenni Olson. The landscape is
San Francisco. Light shifts across its hills and the Golden Gate Bridge.
The voice-over, by Harriet "Harry" Dodge, tells two heart-wrenching
stories: the history of the Bridge as a mecca for suicides, and the
search for love by a young woman seeking another woman. Lawrence
Ferlinghetti reads his ode to San Francisco, "The Changing Light," and
the opening and closing music is by poet and presumed Golden Gate
suicide victim Weldon Kees. Organized by Laurence Kardish, Senior
Curator, Department of Film. Courtesy Strand Releasing and Frameline. 65

 ROBERT FLOWERS ONE-PERSON PROGRAM
  110303 (18 min-2003), SKYCLIMBER (9.5 min.-2005), LIGHT-BEARER (9.5
  min.-2005), STEREOSCOPIC EXPERIMENT FOR AUDIENCE No. 1 (8 min.-2006),

  min.-2006), WAR-HEADS (15 min.-1993) 16mm film, Robert Flowers, based in
Dallas, Texas, brings with him a collection of elegant, mostly abstract,
digital video works and a 16mm film. "The effects of our
industrial/digital age are examined in Robert Daniel Flowers' quietly
poetic 110303 in which repeated machinelike shapes and superimposed
moving rectangles recall modern buildings and the monotony of the
assembly line."- Fred Camper. "A symphony of data, computations, and
architecture at the micro level; where circle and line form grids which
collide, overlap, intersect, and co-exist."- R.F. On WAR-HEADS- "Created
as a reaction against the original Gulf War, WAR-HEADS' macabre
connotations are perhaps more valid today than a decade ago. It is a
dark, militaristic satire (that isn't funny) structured in four ordered
parts of equal value: Commercial, Stealth, Funeral and Ritual (Dance)."-

 TRENCHCOAT CROWD
Scuzzy seats and sticky floors might always have a place on 42nd Street,
but the porn cinemas are gone forever—and at a cost that could not be
calculated in property values. According to Samuel R. Delany, the Runyon
of the red-light district, New York's porn theaters were "not at all
[romantic]. But because of the people who used them, they were humane
and functional, fulfilling needs that most of our society does not yet
know how to acknowledge." Triple Axxxel Kicking off, literally, with a
fabulously raunchy spin across the icy hot surface of competitive figure
skating. Le Nicoeur (The Heartscrewer) Herve Joseph Lebrun, 2005,
France, video, color, sound, 17 min. USA Premiere At the dawn of Spring,
at the foot of the Atlas Mountain, a young traveler thirsty for...sex,

After They Pet Me Janene Higgins, 2002, USA, video, color, sound, 3 min.
New York Premiere As the torch singer laments the fact that she's a
great lay. The video thumbs its nose at the idea that girls aren't
supposed to want it. All Male Mash Up William Jones, 2006, USA, video,
color, sound, 29 min. New York Premiere The short All male mash Up is
spare, even minimalist: Only scenes taken from 70s/80s gay porno, of men
playing out and around with different forms of maleness, ending with a
happy couple by the sea. It's porno made art through the glances of a
loving man – or is it a reality of love that can be found in porno if
one looks with care – or a remembrance of realities past, of times more
willing to indulge in ambiguities? It's all of it at once, as it always
is with Jones. The Naked-Boy Business, part 1 Andre Hereford, 2006,
video, color, sound, 7 min, World Premiere A tongue-in-cheek take on
straight boys' attitudes about the sexualized male body, using
  man-on-the-street interviews, "found" footage of modern-day semi-nude
celebrities, sexy excerpts of the director's own work, and new photos
and video shot by naked-boy legend Peter Berlin.

2004, video, B&W, sound, 2 min. Two minutes of archival video

sound, 7 min. Visual archives of the pink bloc, shot at the IMF/World
Bank demonstration in Prague in September 2000. Clashes with cops,
actvists interviews and a radical rapper! Enraged By A Picture Zanele
Muholi, 2005, South Africa, color, sound, 14 min. A Photographer, Muholi
is celebrating her exhibition in Johannesburg. Efficiently
confrontational, the exhibition causes a stir and provokes an outcry on
a subject that is particularly taboo: being black, and, in this case,
being lesbian. Forthright and beautifully shot, each monochrome photo
captures the present reality of the photographer's subjects - the daily
discomfort, double lives, abuse and hatred. The photographs present a
window into their world. This absorbing documentary explores that
  world's reality.

a gallery and sets out on a cross-town mission to find the mysterious

between filth and glam. Non Objective Composition Anaisa Nascimento,

horror and sci-fi films. A colorful, animated paper collage, the film is
assembled from scraps of 1950s and '60s children's books, home and
how-to manuals, science texts and encyclopedias. Sensing the World by

LTTR PRESENTS: THE DEAD, THE ABSENT AND FICTITIOUS
This is our recognition of all things un-see-able. Is it in your mind,
in your blood? Is it your dream or deep evil? Is it your grandma or your
hero's unfinished last work? You paint wide with your camera and think
big. The point is that it doesn't have to be new. Does it make sense? Or
state the absence of it? –LTTR, Guest Curators. Marble Mouth Au Revoir

Sensing the World by Echo is a "Frankenstein's monster" of a movie
stitched together with parts robbed from the B-movie graveyard of horror
and sci-fi films. A colorful, animated paper collage, the film is
assembled from scraps of 1950s and '60s children's books, home and
how-to manuals, science texts and encyclopedias. Sensing the World by
Echo tells an unconventional narrative about growing up feeling like an
alien from outer space and of finding one's place in a mad, mad world.
Swallowing Butch (The Haunting, 1963) Douglas Green, 2005, video, color,
sound, 4 min. New York Premiere Douglas Green is literally haunting the
1963 horror movie The Haunting by inserting one single frame of original
video into a small clip from the film. This hidden frame is made more
visible as the speed of the clip is repeatedly slowed to expand time,
opening up a close reading that queers the representation of lesbian
desire and the supernatural that the original film imagines. The Process
David Kagan, 2004, USA, video, B&W, sound, 20 min. The Process is a film
about the intricate, private worlds human beings create amid surrounding
chaos. It asks the question: do we do this to keep our sanity, or is it
a dangerous departure from reality? The Process tells of one man's
struggle for human contact. The nameless hero lives as a recluse,
terrified of the world beyond his door. The man fears his anxiety will
forever lock him away from the company of humans. The man's "fairy
godmother" arrives in the form of a black crow. The specter communicates
a process by which the hero will be able to construct a lover. Coif

years old with the same ridiculously coifed hair, Caroline dreams of
having flowing hair like the long-haired lovelies that she sees around
her. She must break the chains in which her family binds her.

space and time. She wakes up on planet Surgery, whose inhabitants are
surgical failures. Her contact gives her a flask and tells her that when
aboard the Transgender spaceship she will discover her true mission.
After having wandered in space, she finds herself in a transgender
cabaret in the spaceship. The show unveils the key to the intrigue: she
must reactivate an almost extinct race by playing a LP record. Two

Premiere After detaining immigrants, silencing journalists, and
demonizing intellectuals, the leaders of the New America decide that
they need a New Enemy to distract the restless citizenry...THE QUEERS!
When the new leaders discover that most Americans are willing to deny
human rights to sexual minorities, the government whips the nation into
a frenzy of hatred towards gays and transsexuals-- a frenzy that
culminates in the mass extermination of THE GAY MENACE! Yet the new
leaders make one fatal mistake: after rounding up the majority of
American gay males, they assume that queer females will surrender
without a fight. But the New Government quickly comes to realize that
even the U.S. Army is no match for the loveable wacky militant dykes and
trannies rising up from the depths of the Homosexual Underground.
