Fotospeed (www.fotospeed.com) makes an item called 'Fotomask MK50' (cat.
FS07310). It is a liquid which can be painted onto any photographic
emulsion. It dries rapidly to form a water and chemical proof skin which
protects the coated area from subsequent dyeing/toning/bleaching/etching,
etc. A piece of adhesive tape can be applied to peel it off in one sheet
after it's dried.
It is not clear.
Rubber cement is another possibility and is comparatively clear, and can be
thinned down for more precises control.
