Hey Joel,
A couple of things you could try. John Bastion, who you probably know from Film Arts Foundation, has a film transfer system and does some good work very inexpensively. You can call him at 415.668.3148.
There is always Video Transfer Center at South Van Ness and 15th Street. www.vtc-sf.com. A nice pair of folks and have been around for years.
In both cases. these are just transfers without any real exposure and color-correction like a telecine. But in both cases, they can also transfer onto a disc, in case you want to avoid the whole logging and capturing business in Final Cut. Actually, John will create a file right on a hard drive if you provide him with one.
Okay? Okay.
