I would love to get rid of DVD submissions. Burning DVDs is a
horrible, slow process and the supplies are expensive. Postage is
outrageous, especially since I seem to constantly find European shows
with calls that line up with my work. A lot of shows want not only the
screener but also stills, description, etc on a CD, so double the
plastic, more burn time, label time. I've taken to writing those shows
off.
All of it could be on the web so easily.
You might want to take a look at Pando (http://www.pando.com/) as an
option for people who want to send an electronic file without putting
things up on Vimeo or Youtube. I first encountered them when
Outcasting (http://www.outcasting.org) listed it as an alternative to
sending a DVD for one of their calls. It's fast and incredibly easy to
use.
